You are not IN the universe, you ARE the universe,
an intrinsic part of it. Ultimately you are not a person,
but a focal point where the universe is becoming
conscious of itself. What an amazing miracle.
– Eckhart Tolle
The task of Scorpio finds Hercules slaying the 9-headed hydra. As he cut off one head, two more would take its place. Quickly becoming overwhelmed, Hercules recalled his teacher's words, "We rise by kneeling." As he lifted the monster into the air it gradually weakened, separated from its place in the mud and mire of the bog, and eventually died.
Finally we, as individuals, recognize that such a fierce creature dwells inside us. For Hercules, each time a head was chopped off two grew in its place. Much as, every time a low desire or thought is overcome, another takes its place.
What is needed to accomplish this labour, we all face? Using discrimination, we must first recognize the need to find the monster. Next, to discover its lair, we apply patience and muster up sufficient courage to proceed. Humility finally brings the slimy fragments of the subconscious to the surface, into the light of wisdom.
The task in Scorpio to destroy the Hydra is especially pertinent for lightworkers. As light attracts darkness (and vice versa), and we all know the feeling of being thwarted in our service from interference by lower energies and situations.
A key to success in overcoming such challenges is to “be not distracted” by the details of any situation that interferes with our goal, the greatest good for all involved. Instead of being glamoured by the drama we can simply recognize lower energies as such, and then address the situation by applying turning away from the darkness and setting our gaze onto the light of Spirit.
The Light of Scorpio is characterized as “the Light of Day” ~ “This is the place where three lights meet ~ the light of form, the light of soul, and the light of life. They meet; they blend; they rise.” (1)
As we invoke the Light of Scorpio to assist with overcoming whatever difficulties we may encounter, out of seeming chaos comes Clarity of Purpose.
In the mythical Scorpio Labor of Hercules, we are given essential tools to aid us in our service to the One Life.
1 “We rise by kneeling” calls us to invoke the Divine for assistance in overcoming any challenges. On our figurative knees, we are humbled in acknowledging our human frailty, in relation to the entire panoply of life that encompasses all the planes and vibrations.
2. Recognizing all the insidious heads of the hydra as one enables us “to seal the door where evil dwells.” We thereby invoke the Yoga of Synthesis.
The Hercules Labors are near and dear in the hearts of those who tread the Lighted Way. In some manner, during the annual cycle we are each given the opportunity to apply the lessons of the zodiacal Labor associated with the presently influencing sign, moving through all 12 zodiacal deities as they are focused into the Light of the sun as it passes in front of each constellation in turn, every month.
Hercules in the 21st Century ~ Scorpio Labor
Destroying the Nuclear Cartel
This supreme test represents raising the monster ~ all the accumulated evils, mistakes, and failures of long past ~ into the air of the spirit, wherein those energies cannot live. In the original myth, Hercules was told to find the 9-headed monster that lived in a stench-filled swamp. In the caverns of the mind, this beast ~ the nuclear stockpile of our modern day story ~ lives in us. The sinister invader is not to be found easily, having established its permanent residence in our subconscious.
