The Principle of Goodwill Principles are the ideas of God.
Goodwill has been called a saving force in the midst of world need. Its keynote is liberation of the human spirit, releasing consciousness into more creative livingness. Goodwill becomes dynamic, and when called into action is able to bridge cleavages, to bring reconciliation and an end to disputes. The immediate challenge with which humanity is faced is that of gradually eliminating hatred, replacing it with a trained, imaginative, creative, and practical goodwill. The supply of goodwill in the world today is limited only by the minds of human beings. Here is presented a field of service seldom before recognized. According to the Old Commentary as shared by Alice A. Bailey, part of the Plan for this cycle is goodwill for all people, and through all people, goodwill. One of the tasks the Spiritual Hierarchy wishes to see accomplished at this time is that of an increase of goodwill in all aspects of form life, the Tibetan informs us through Bailey. Goodwill is contagious, and once set in motion it will permeate the world consciousness so that right human relations will be more rapidly established. In this effort right human relations and goodwill mutually stimulate and support each other. The goodwill of the person in the street is based on an innate divine tendency, often unrecognized but ever present. The goodwill of the disciple, expressed in the Will-to-Good of the Soul, is based on knowledge and a resonant receptivity to energies released from Shamballa, the Center of Life, Spirit, Will, and Synthesis, where the Will-to-Good of the Whole is practiced. Through intelligent understanding of the needs of humanity and of the problems humanity faces today, the active practice and use of the goodwill leads to right relations in all areas of experience, and to the discovery of creative solutions to disruptive situations. There are no problems and conditions which cannot be solved by the will-to-good. (1) Goodwill is actually far more widespread than humanity thinks. And recognition and education will set this will-to-good in motion, as people recognize their responsibility and the opportunity being presented. A loosely organized world group is emerging, with members powerfully linked subjectively, and a new World Order can begin to shape the future. The New Group of World Servers provides such an organism. All spiritually inclined people who work to anchor right human relations, all who practice goodwill and seek to love their fellow humanity unemotionally, impersonally, and without sentiment, are an integral part of the New Group of World Servers. Members of the New Group of World Servers ~ this loosely linked group of men and women of goodwill ~ believe that, through the agency of goodwill, a New World Order can be firmly established on Earth. They place their emphasis upon the primary need for right human relations empowered by goodwill to bring about a lasting peace. Powerful assistance will be provided by that extraplanetary Intelligence known to the Hierarchy as the Spirit of Peace and of Equilibrium, of Whom the Tibetan speaks in The Reappearance of the Christ (2). This Spirit of Peace is said to work through the Prince of Peace, as the Christ is sometimes called, and through the loving, understanding and inclusive consciousness focused in the Christ and also potently present and growing ever stronger in every human heart. "... What is peace?" the Tibetan asks. He goes on to define it as "essentially the establishing of right human relations" ... and "an illumined loving understanding of the will of God as it affects humanity and works out divine intent." (3) The energy of the Spirit of Peace is directed toward the task of bringing peace eventually to humanity, through the expression of that goodwill which will bring about right human relations. The first impact of the energy of the Spirit of Peace, the Tibetan informs us, was unconsciously registered by humanity in May 1936, about the time the original stanza of The Great Invocation was released. A second impact was experienced (still unconscious to a large extent) in June 1945, when the final Stanza of this Invocation was released, which we recite today. Having at times directly impacted the consciousness of humanity, the energy of the Will of God serves to awaken the latent Will-to-Good in the souls of all men and women. When dynamically awakened, this Will-to-Good will stimulate the expression of goodwill in receptive hearts and minds. Aware world disciples can invoke and thus evoke the inflow of the dynamic energy of the Will-to-Good in order to awaken goodwill within the human consciousness. As in right human relations, the energy of Love-Wisdom stimulates the tendency toward goodwill, producing a mental development that can transmute the knowledge, accumulated through the ages, into Wisdom. Everything now depends upon the right action of the people of goodwill, we are also told. As the work goes forward in the effort to establish right human relations, expressed through goodwill, the Christ and His disciples will steadily approach closer to mankind (See The Reappearance of the Christ, p. 189).
In the past, goodwill has been "a dream, a theory, a negative force." It can be developed into a fact, a functioning reality, and a positive force. This is the work of the people of goodwill who are found everywhere, ready to be directed into effective and efficient activity, as agents of goodwill and of that which has never been, as yet, truly practiced ~ right human relations. It is in connection with the right use of money that the great test of goodwill will demonstrate. "The difficulty is not with the organising of the money and the work; it lies with the seeming inability of people to give," the Tibetan wrote (5). This attitude is changing as humanity begins to see the need and to respond freely and generously to that need. In the new cycle prior to the reappearance of the Christ, the demand for financial support must be for the purpose of establishing right human relations and goodwill, and not for the growth of any particular organization. The theme of the living consciousness of the planetary Logos is forever and unchangeably the great Hierarchy of Being, that chain of life in which the smallest link is of importance, and the greatest link is related to the smallest through the electrical interplay of spiritual energy. From one important angle of life, all is Hierarchy ~ linking sun with sun, star with star, solar system with solar system, planet with planet, and all planetary lives with each other.
The major keynote of every planetary initiation, even to the very highest, is relationship. We know not what other qualities may be revealed to the initiate on other paths, yet there is the truth that the goal of all endeavor upon our planet is right relations between each and every person and between the human and Deity, between all expressions of divine life, from the tiniest atom up and on into infinity. In this very process the practice of goodwill is a potent factor. From the highest energy sources, the great Life stream of Wholeness pours energy downward into manifested form. Again the opportunity and responsibility are vested in humanity. Goodwill must be brought down from the mental plane to become active on the physical plane. The will-to-good of the Buddhic Soul, as opposed to the human soul on the plane of mind, can then augment the goodwill and become the "touchstone which will transform the world." (7). The intelligent activity of the energy of goodwill and its expression through Wisdom ~ applied skill in action ~ is the task assigned to all members of the New Group of World Servers, the people of goodwill throughout the world.
